PRAYING IN THE FIRE
A person I love dearly was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks ago. We found out today that the cancer has invaded lymph nodes. This was a crushing blow to my loved one. Honestly, it was for me too. As of right now, we don’t know what this changes (if anything) about the treatment plan or the prognosis of recovery.
My first response was to cry out asking God to heal him. The words caught in my heart. While it is my earnest desire for my loved one to be completely healed, I have a greater desire.
A PRAYER CHANGED
My choked prayer changed from “God please heal him” to “God let him encounter YOU!”
Encountering God is about much more than healing. Encounters with God bring hope and healing, not only for the person experiencing it, but for those watching. Godly encounters have an Earthly AND an Eternal impact! They help you walk through seemingly impossible circumstances with a peace that passes all understanding. They provide strength for the spirit when the body suffers.
A HEAVENLY PERSPECTIVE AS YOU PRAY
While you (or someone you love) encounters the fire, the way you pray matters. Praying against painful circumstances is a natural instinct and desire. Definitely ask for healing, or what other rescue you need from God. While you are doing this though, do not over look the Heavenly agenda. Our opportunity for salvation came from Jesus keeping His eyes on God’s purpose and plan over His own personal desire to avoid the fire.
CHALLENGE
Examine how you currently pray? When you cry out to God is your perspective a Heavenly one or an Earthly one. Ask for the rescue, but give God the permission for His plan and purpose to be fulfilled in and through your (or your loved one’s) fires.
This is day 19 of the #write31days challenge where I will be writing a new post each day about having ‘FAITH in the FIRE’. If you don’t want to miss out on any of this series, click here and join my email mailing list. The posts will be delivered into your in-box.

Let him encounter You, Lord. Great prayer for others and myself. Thanks for sharing.
I was honestly stunned when my prayer shifted. It is evidence of God working in me for sure… because my flesh fully wants to focus only on healing!
Tammy, as one who has gone through cancer surgery, I can say what He did in me through that journey was one of the greatest gifts He ever gave me. It’s hard to communicate that without being misunderstood at times, but while I was enduring a physical surgery and recovery, He was doing a spiritual remodeling job on me. My blog and it’s name came out of my drawing closer to the Lord. Thank you for your post and I will pray for your friend as well.
Beautiful, Tammy. Agreeing in prayer with you for your loved one to experience a divine encounter with the Living God!
Tammy, praying for you and your family member!
Tammy, isn’t it so true? As much as we want our loved ones healed and well, we want them TO KNOW JESUS, up close & personal. I will agree in prayer with you for dad. And for YOU. Catching up today. I won’t comment on each one but I’m here!!!
The Lord’s will is so different from ours at times, yet His is always better even when we can’t see it. Interestingly, my post today was on the exact same topic. I think God’s trying to tell me something! Prayers for you and your family in this difficult season.
Yes! God let me encounter you!
